Matthew Halsall graduated with a Degree in Physics from the University of Sheffield in the UK in 1986, and was awarded a PhD in Physics on the “growth and spectroscopy of CdS/CdSe superlattices” from the University of Hull in 1990. After postdoctoral appointments in Norwich (UK), Grenoble (France) and Tsukuba (Japan), he was appointed as a Lecturer in the School of Physics at Manchester in 1994 and moved to the school of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in Manchester in 2004. He was promoted to Professor of Photonics at Manchester in 2010. In recent years his research has centered on the optical spectroscopy of novel carbon and silicon based electronic materials and devices. Back to list
