We will report on a number of high-speed DFB laser diodes, which have been fabricated by heterogeneous integration of Indium Phosphide on silicon-on-insulator waveguides. Such laser diodes are potential light sources in silicon photonics and their specific structure can be taken advantage of in the design of high speed transmitters for optical interconnects. We will also address how these laser diodes can be made more efficient such that their electrical power consumption and thermal behavior can be improved.
