Abstract
Silicon photonics owes its success for a large part to the re-use of technologies originally developed for electronic integrated circuits. Therefore, not surprisingly, the silicon photonics world has also been inspired by open-access methodologies that are well established in the CMOS-world. This presentation will sketch a historical perspective of open-access in silicon photonics and will discuss the strengths but also the challenges in today’s state of the art. The presentation will then spell out a roadmap for the future. |
