Margot Niels received the BSc and MSc degrees in Electronics and ICT Engineering Technology from Ghent University, Belgium in 2019 and 2020 respectively. The master thesis was carried out during an exchange at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Norway. Afterwards, she obtained an additional MSc degree in electrical engineering at Ghent University, Belgium in 2022. During the master thesis, Margot came into contact with the Photonics Research Group at Ghent University due to her work on a silicon photonic Butler matrix.
In September 2022, she joined the Photonics Research Group, where she is currently working as a PhD student on an optical phased locked loop on a lithium niobate and silicon nitride photonic platform.
