NEDO: PhotoCryst

Full Name: Topographic Optimization of photonic crystals and application to ultrasmall and ultra-fast optical signal processing devices

Duration: 1/10/2004-30/9/2007 (Finished)

Partners:

  • University of Tsukuba
  • NEC Corporation
  • NAiST, Japan
  • Meijo University
  • Aarhus University
  • Research Center COM
  • TU Denmark
  • IMEC - Ghent University

Objective:

  • Develop a fast optical switch based on a photonic crystal symmetric Mach-Zehnder circuit.
  • Optimize splitters, bends and couplers using a topology optimization technique
  • Investigate the possibilities of implementing this device in Silicon
  • Establish a mass-fabrication route using deep UV lithography

INTEC's Role:

  • Investigate the possibilities of implementing this device in Silicon
  • Establish a mass-fabrication route using deep UV lithography
